Native Seed Library
What is a 'Seed Library'?
A native seed library allows you to borrow, plant, and return seeds for others to enjoy. Thanks to a generous donation from Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library, we have been able to kickstart this new initiative!
Through our distribution, growing, and sharing of native seeds, we hope to encourage more natural spaces in our yards. Native plant species will attract more pollinators and wildlife into your gardens by providing food and habitats.
BORROW: Our native seed library contains ethically-sourced native seeds. We do not harvest whole plants, nor do we include cultivars in our collection.
GROW: Plant your seeds in your garden, boulevard strip, or containers. Seeds can be winter-sown or directly seeded, depending on conditions. Some varieties of plants may not flower in the first year. Trees and shrubs, in most cases, take at least 5 years to produce flowers.
SHARE: Once flowers had gone to seed in the fall, we encourage you to collect seeds and return them to our library. 10% collection falls under ethical harvesting practices. Do not collect seeds from protected areas or conservation sites.
