About Us
In 1995, The Frog Pond at the corner of DeCew Road and Richmond Street along with the Carolinian woodland nicknamed the Richmond Street Forest in the middle of Confederation Heights West, Thorold Ontario was saved from development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the City of Thorold, the Developer and Friends of the Forest.
In early February 2022, The Frog Pond - filled with hibernating chorus frogs, salamanders and other overwintering creatures - was bulldozed. In the City Council meeting (02/15/2022), it was revealed that the City of Thorold issued a permit, allowing for this to happen.
Because the MOU was ignored, we found it necessary to revitalize the friend’s group, Friends of the Richmond Street Forest. We are welcoming new members and will very much appreciate any help from like-minded folks in Thorold and anywhere in the world!
